Sedation Dentistry in Fort Wayne, IN

If you have dental fear or anxiety, a hard time sitting still for long periods, or just want a more comfortable experience, sedation dentistry might be right for you. We offer multiple levels of sedation to best meet your needs and give you the most comfortable visit possible. If you would like to utilize sedation at your next visit, please contact our team to schedule a consultation to find out more information.

Some patients who may benefit from sedation dentistry have:

  • A fear or anxiety of being at the dentist
  • A hard time sitting still for long periods of time
  • A hard time getting (and staying) numb from anesthetics

Sedation dentistry allows your doctor to provide a variety of dental treatments safely and comfortably for patients who experience anxiety when visiting the dentist. There are several benefits to sedation dentistry, including:

  • Little to no memory of undergoing the procedure
  • Little to no sense of time while under sedation
  • Little to no sense of smell or sound
  • Little to no fear or anxiety during treatment

Patients who have undergone a procedure using sedation dentistry will tell you it is a simple, relaxing way to experience dentistry.

There is no need to be nervous about having sedation dentistry at our practice; Dr. Painter holds an Indiana Light Parenteral Conscious (IV) Sedation permit, and you will find that we are both respectful and professional at all times with the goal of providing the care that is right for you. There are five levels of sedation that we practice: local anesthetic, nitrous oxide, oral sedation, IV Sedation, and full sedation (this method requires a hospital visit).

  • Local Anesthetic — Local anesthetic helps to numb and reduce pain by administering an injection near the area receiving treatment.
  • Nitrous Oxide — Often referred to as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is administered through a nose piece to reduce anxiety and pain. For more information, please visit our nitrous oxide page.
  • Oral Sedation — Oral sedation is a method of sedation that is administered through medication that is taken before the procedure to help reduce anxiety and pain.
  • IV Sedation — IV Sedation is similar to what occurs during an outpatient hospital visit and helps patients undergo treatment in a deeper state of relaxation. For more information, please visit our IV Sedation page.
  • Full Sedation — Full sedation involves being fully unconscious during the treatment and does require a hospital visit.

With most forms of sedation, we do require a consultation before treatment. To learn more about any of our levels of sedation or to schedule a consultation, please contact our office by calling (260) 232-0280.
